Our Values, Vision & Mission

"Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction."

1 Corinthians 1:10

At The Rock Church, we believe that our values are at the center of everything we aspire to do, and the ways we go about accomplishing that vision. Our values, vision for the future, and our mission in the community are at the core of who we are and what we do. These three things unite us as a church family and define why we exist.

We are a Foursquare Church that believes that Jesus is the Savior, Baptizer, Healer, and soon coming King. Click here for our doctrinal statement.

core values

1. God’s Word – Inspired and Infallible

We value God’s Word as absolute truth. It is the all-sufficient guide for faith and living for every Christ-follower. Daily Bible study and memorization is necessary for spiritual growth. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…

2 Timothy 3:16

2. Family – God Given and Blessed

We value family! We strive for healthy relationships with immediate family members through fellowship. We pursue relationships in the community through outreaches. Finally, we foster relationships in our church family through love. Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. Acts 13:26

3. Serving – Joyfully and Immediately

We value generosity. Our goal is to live with open hearts and hands to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the world around us, just as Christ would. As we gladly give of our time, talents, and treasure we will see God’s faithfulness in our lives. As we give appreciation and show gratitude to those we’re serving with, we will see God’s love transform our hearts. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

4. Innovation – Ministry and Technology

We value innovation. We strive to stay cutting edge with ministry techniques and technology. As we navigate an ever-changing world, our methods change, but the message must remain the same. For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them…I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23

OUR VISION: “ONE MORE!”

Our vision finds is basis in the understanding that discipleship happens most effectively face-to-face and either one-on-one or in a small group of individuals. The harvest is plentiful, and our heart is that we all be actively working to bring that harvest in. Each of us should be working to influence those around us with the Love and Truth of Jesus. The Kingdom is never full, and the Father’s house never runs out of room. When someone new surrenders their life to Christ we recognize that there is still room for “one more!”

OUR MISSION: WHY THE ROCK CHURCH EXISTS

Our mission follows the example set by Jesus that is recorded in John chapter four. Here Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman and begins a conversation with her. We see Him PURSUE a relationship with her through that conversation, making eye-contact with her, and speaking to her heart. As this relationship is developed, He has great INFLUENCE on her life. This influence quickly spreads from her own life to the lives of others as she runs to tell everyone about Jesus. Thus, the change her life begins to MULTIPLY throughout her city.

Through this passage, we believe that Jesus demonstrated what the Kingdom of God is really all about: relationship! According to this model, our mission is simplified -

OUR STRATEGY: HOW WE WILL ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION

Having a great mission is worthless without a great strategy to make that vision a reality. How do we plan on getting this mission done? All we’ve got to do is BLESS those around us. If all of us do our part, we can reach those around us who are far from God and make our community better.

BEGIN WITH PRAYER: This first step, while simple and requiring very little from each of us is one of the most important things we can do. Simply pray for those in your life that don’t yet know Jesus. Ask God for an opportunity to share who He is with someone else.

LISTEN TO SOMEONE: This sounds easy, but it’s harder than it sounds. Don’t talk. Don’t give advice. Don’t talk about how things could be worse. Instead, simply let people share what they’re facing. Make good eye contact, listen well, and wait for God to open a door for your next steps.

EAT WITH THEM: There is something powerful about sitting down with someone over a meal or a nice cup of coffee. Eating with someone is one of the best ways to build relationship with them, and it’s an important part of our missional strategy for that reason.

SERVE THEM: The first three steps in our strategy will often lead you to understanding how to complete this step. When you take the time to listen to someone over a meal, and you develop that relationship, they will tell you how to love them. All you need to do is follow through.

SHARE YOUR STORY: You may have heard that no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. Your story is one of the best ways to introduce others to Jesus. Once you’ve earned their trust by completing the previous steps in the strategy, you will have made a friend, and earned the chance to share how Jesus has changed your life. Watch for that open door and walk right through it.
